One Little Change

Did you make any New Year’s resolutions? Here we are a week and a half into the new year, how are you doing? Statistically speaking, more than 30% of us will give up on our resolutions by this weekend (two weeks into the new year). Here is a quick thought that may help you stay motivated toward reaching those goals.

I have never claimed to have a green thumb. Most of my plants die shortly after I bring them into my home. In fact, my children used to apologize to plants that I would buy, knowing what their fate would inevitably be! I have had a Christmas Cactus for the last year and a half. Even though it has never bloomed, I count it a success that it is even still alive 🙂  When I was decorating for Christmas, I ran out of room on my kitchen counter so I placed a small table in front of the window and moved all my plants there. Despite the fact that I moved the plants for my benefit, not theirs, the change has been amazing. Now that my plants are in front of the window, they are getting regular sunlight and I am thrilled to say that they are all blooming. The Christmas cactus is exploding with 28 blossoms! One little change made a huge difference.

The same is true with our lives and our goals. Often, we try to reach a goal with minimal to no disruption to our normal routine. We want to loose weight while still eating our favorite junk food. We want to get in shape but we don’t make room in our schedule to go to the gym. But when we keep doing the same thing, we will inevitable receive the same results. Albert Einstein said it this way, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”

Maybe your goal is so big that there are many things that should be changed to reach it; and that makes you feel overwhelmed. Is there one little thing that you can start doing today that will help you reach your goal? If you are trying to loose weight, why not replace your soda with water, or replace dessert with a piece of fruit? If you need to get in shape, why not replace one television show with a walk around the neighborhood? These are little things that can start you on the path to achieving your goals. One little step in the right direction is still positive movement! Click To Tweet

What is your new year’s resolution? Will you please share the little thing that you will start doing today to help you reach that goal? Let’s make 2017 the best ever and live a life of success and satisfaction!

  • What a beautiful reminder Meschelle! Thank you for sharing this thought today! It’s funny that you mention the gym…I have had a gym membership for 2 years but have fallen off the proverbial “bandwagon” over the last year with my attendance. You have inspired me to “get back at it”! It all begins with a choice…and today, I have made the choice to pack my gym bag and make the time.

    1. Good morning Hannah! It is so nice to hear from you. Have fun at the gym. Starting Monday, I will be getting up at some insane hour of the morning to do the Insanity workouts. We can keep each other accountable.

  • Congrats on the cactus!! Remember, plants also like water!! = } Good blog — all too often I adopt the “any excuse will do” attitude about things I know I should do. Thanks for the encouragement. Nana

    1. I have even researched online how to keep the blooms from falling off. I am not moving it and giving it room temperature water only once a week so that I don’t shock it. I’m also saying really nice things to it; maybe that will help 🙂

  • I think, no matter how you say it, no matter how you do it, it is a step in recognizing that you have departed from what you really want. Being healthy and fit is a a life style and it makes life just that much better.
This year I want to be less judgemental and have more willingness to experience others point of view. Yup. That’s what I am going to do. Starting tomorrow. I need to talk to my neighbor first! Hahaha

What do you think?
